Hewlett Foundation Funds WeRobotics

We’re very excited to announce that the Hewlett Foundation has decided to award WeRobotics an important grant to support our work in 2018 and 2019. Hewlett’s generous grant will enable us to scale our Tanzania Flying Labs and to launch a new lab: Senegal Flying Labs. This will bring the total number of Flying Labs to 4 countries: Nepal, Peru, Tanzania and Senegal.

We’re particularly pleased to count the Hewlett Foundation as one of our primary supporters and partners given how dedicated and serious they are about improving policy-making, governance and accountability in the countries that they and their grantees work in. We use the word partner deliberately here because the Foundation has already provided us with key introductions to other stakeholders in Tanzania and Senegal. To be sure, our vision and objectives are very much aligned with those of the Hewlett Foundation.

This new grant will enable our Flying Labs in Africa to work more closely with decision makers and to help connect the data-to-decisions feedback loop. Robotics solutions like drones can collect data at unique spatial and temporal resolutions. The key, however, is turning that data into analysis and having said analysis inform decision making in order to scale the positive impact of the social sectors in Tanzania and Senegal. Hewlett’s support will help us focus on this challenge more directly.

With this important grant, the Hewlett Foundation joins our other donors and partners (Rockefeller Foundation, USAID, Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, World Food Program, UN Development Program, UNICEF, etc) as an invaluable member of the WeRobotics family.
