Webinar on Terrestrial Robotics

On November 2nd WeRobotics hosted a webinar on ground-based robotics featuring Erin Kennedy, founder of Robot Missions - an organization devoted to harnessing the power of robots to help our planet through environmental observation, cleanup, and restoration. Robot Missions specifically has been empowering communities around the world in tackling the mission of cleaner shorelines through a custom-built, terrestrial robotics platform, and has already completed 20 Field Tests in Toronto and Ottawa (Canada), engaging with over 250 participants.
Erin "RobotGrrl" Kennedy is a robot maker who has designed and developed a robot to collect shoreline debris, which can be replicated anywhere with a 3D printer. Kennedy studied digital fabrication at the Fab Academy, and worked with a global team at MIT on a forty-eight-hour challenge during Fab11 to build a fully functional submarine. A former fellow in social innovation at the MaRS Discovery District’s Studio Y, Erin has been recognized as a finalist in the Lieutenant Governor's Visionary Prize (Ontario, Canada), and her previous robotics work has been featured in Forbes, Wired, and IEEE Spectrum and on the Discovery Channel.
In this webinar, Erin spoke in detail about how Robot Missions combines community outreach with robotics and with environmental stewardship. After her presentation, Erin answered questions from the audience regarding the ease of using the robotics platform, and about possible future collaboration with WeRobotics' Flying Labs.
