"Drones as a Service" Business Incubation Program
July 9th, 2017
We believe that drones and other robotics technologies will have a permanent place in many types of businesses for mapping, delivery, or other perhaps still unknown uses. Committed to growing the robotics industry in Tanzania, WeRobotics in partnership with Tanzania Flying Labs, DTBI and dLab is hosting a business incubation program on how to leverage technical skills and readily available drone mapping hardware / software to create a drone-related service company in Tanzania. This program will focus on the business aspects needed to start a drone service company (using drones to generate maps, 3D models, indexes, and aerial imagery, etc).
The incubation program begins today with the ideation phase - sign-ups are open to all until August 20. Four finalists will be chosen by a local panel of judges by late-August and then attend a 5 day business seminar, to be held from September 18 to 22, 2017 in Dar es Salaam. Each finalist team will receive TSH 1,000,000 in cash and will be guided by DTBI to work on their business plan and pitch in preparation for the final competition. A winning team will be elected by a jury of experts in late October and will receive an incubation fund of TSH 10,000,000 to kickstart their business.
All individuals living in Tanzania, already possessing the necessary technical knowledge and skills to operate drones, acquire data, and produce outputs like maps, 3D models, and indexes, and are motivated to start their own business using drone technology, are welcome to sign up with a team of up to 4 people.
The program is free of charge and we encourage all interested parties to submit their best “drones as a service” idea. You can find the application and further information on the program site: http://tanzania.werobotics.org/business
