Why Our Approach Works

Our ecosystem building success and impact stems from focussing both on what we do - our core work - and being intentional about who we do it with, and how we do it. We call this our "Secret Sauce", made up of the following ingredients: 

• We don’t decide, we attract. Our ecosystems grow organically, by word of mouth. Local and global actors decide to join for the value, connections and relationships provided, not funding.
• We focus on people and relationships first, then technology. Haiti Flying Labs’ reasons to be part of the Network demonstrate that trust and connections are not a soft add-on but a hard multiplier of impact that sustains beyond funding.
• We advocate for local leadership and global support. The collaborative solution space that shapes mobility in Dakar shows how locally led, globally supported collaboration can replace top-down technocratic project implementation.
• We build on the existing, investing in partnerships and collaborations instead of growing our own organization. The drone response after Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica is a perfect example on how
  shared ownership reduces redundancy and increases resource efficiency.
• We create sustainability through interdependence, replication and scale. Our Glocalization model offers a new social impact paradigm. It replaces dependency with interdependency. Value and funds are provided by all actors, and they can flow in all directions, from local to global back to local again.

Our secret sauce comes to life through models and cross-cutting enablers we build in parallel to our core work.

Our Glocalization Model

The model, co-created over the past 10 years, provides the underlying infrastructures to guide the “locally led, globally supported” direction. It connects all parts of our core work, allowing them to work together like a living system, each one strengthening the others.

Frameworks and Blueprints

Through our collaborations and solutions, we co-create frameworks and blueprints that translate experiences made into practical approaches. This allows for learning to circulate freely, and solutions and collaborations to scale and replicate across different contexts, without imposing rigid models.

Storytelling

Giving local experts a voice and visibility, telling the stories of their solutions is an essential part of our work. This supports the much needed mindset and narrative change to shift how technology, leadership, and collaboration are understood, making locally led approaches more visible, credible, and widely recognized.
