Collaboration Background

Being active in the drone space since 2016, and working with Flying Labs and local Civil Aviation Authorities in Africa since 2023 through our Drone Regulations Engagement Framework, we know how difficult it is to shape locally relevant drone regulations and policies all the while finding ways to harmonize with regional and international standards. We also know that the task can feel overwhelming and isolated for local actors who rarely have a community of peers to connect to.

Flying Labs work closely with Civil Aviation Authorities in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific. We join them for some of the collaborations. And we facilitate a global parter network that includes partners such as GUTMA and the FOCA. We therefore felt uniquely positioned  to create a dedicated collaboration space for CAAs, Flying Labs and global supporters to regularly come together, learn and share.

Goal of the Collaboration

The CAA Networking initiative proposes a trusted space for open-sharing and dialogue between on the ground stakeholders and their CAAs, but has also created an avenue for stakeholders to CAA, CAA to CAA, and CAA to Stakeholders to converse holistically and efficiently through a two-times per year event.

This collaboration space  enhances national and regional stakeholder engagement, provides sharing spaces for drone regulations and policies discussions, and allows for a global and local understanding and streamlined approach in an industry that is ever-evolving.

Our goal with this trusted space is to enhance the harmonization of locally-led, bottom-up approaches to developing drone regulations and policies that are built from a thorough understanding of where the needs lie. And to connect drone regulation leaders around the world to learn and understand other countries' progress, challenges, and wins. In sum: building a community to enhance regulations and policies by learning from each other.

Collaboration Format

We organize thematic and open discussions 2 - 3 times per year. These discussions are not just another webinar or online conference, but an opportunity for discussion, alignment, networking and partnership conversations to develop in real-time that is unlike offered in the drone regulations space.
