Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

Pedro (Peter) Martínez is a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) specialist with over a decade of experience working at the crossroads of humanitarian innovation, community-led development, and data for social impact. His work focuses on designing participatory MEL systems that center local voices, storytelling, and inclusive decision-making. Pedro has supported grassroots organizations, UN agencies, and INGOs in strengthening their monitoring frameworks and capacity to turn evidence into action. He holds a Master's degree in Human Rights, Democracy, and Globalization from the Open University of Catalonia and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Education from the University of Valencia. As a former Innovation Fellow at UNHCR, he led cross-sectoral initiatives—from refugee-led integration programs to the creation of digital tools for participatory monitoring, feedback, and composite indicator design. With a strong foundation in qualitative and quantitative methods, Pedro has trained dozens of local organizations in Latin America in MEL, Information Management, and data storytelling and visualization.
Originally from Spain and now living in Ecuador, Pedro devotes most of his free time to his two young daughters. He also enjoys travelling and being in nature—climbing rocks, hiking trails, or catching waves—and occasionally gets lost in flamenco guitar, chess, or the latest on applied tech and AI.
