Solution Background

Wildfires are increasing in frequency and intensity due to climate change, affecting ecosystems, water systems, biodiversity, and communities worldwide. In Brazil, particularly in the Atlantic Forest, wildfires have caused severe environmental damage.

Public institutions struggle to access fast, reliable tools to assess fire impact and guide recovery. Despite the availability of satellite data, most wildfire assessments remain slow, fragmented, and dependent on technical specialists. This creates a critical gap between data and decision-making.

To address this challenge, Brazil Flying Labs, with support from WeRobotics and the Flying Labs Network, developed the Wildfire Insight Intelligence solution, a platform designed to make wildfire data accessible, actionable, and operational.

The solution has been co-developed with public land managers, particularly in collaboration with the Fundação Florestal in São Paulo, ensuring it responds directly to real-world operational needs.

The Platform

The Wildfire Insight Intelligence is a web-based platform solution that transforms satellite imagery into clear, standardized wildfire intelligence within seconds.

Using cloud-based geospatial processing and AI-supported analysis, the platform automatically:

  • Calculates burned area extent
  • Classifies fire severity
  • Maps spatial distribution of fire impact
  • Generates georeferenced outputs
  • Produces standardized technical reports

The platform runs on a scalable architecture combining Google Earth Engine and cloud infrastructure, enabling large-scale analysis without requiring local computing resources.

A key innovation is its accessibility: users do not need expertise in remote sensing or GIS. Through a simple interface, and AI-supported insights, environmental managers can quickly understand fire impact and make informed decisions.

The solution is currently being piloted with the Fundação Florestal in São Paulo and validated by Flying Labs in multiple regions across Latin America, Africa, and Asia, demonstrating adaptability across ecosystems and institutional contexts.

Beyond Technology

Beyond the technical platform, the initiative includes:

  • Capacity building in GIS and geospatial analysis
  • Training programs for environmental professionals
  • Youth engagement and climate awareness initiatives in fire-prone areas

This integrated approach strengthens both institutional capacity and long-term community resilience.

What's Next

The next phase focuses on scaling and deepening impact. Key priorities include:

  • Expanding deployments to additional wildfire-prone regions globally
  • Enhancing AI capabilities for predictive analysis and vegetation recovery monitoring
  • Developing impact dashboards for long-term ecosystem tracking
  • Strengthening integration with government systems and climate programs
  • Expanding training programs to build local geospatial and climate-tech skills

We are also working to transition from pilot deployments to long-term institutional partnerships, ensuring sustainability and continuous impact.

How You Can Get Involved

We are actively seeking partners to scale and strengthen this solution. You can get involved by:

  • Partnering as a pilot country or implementing organization
  • Supporting deployments through funding or climate resilience programs
  • Collaborating on research, AI development, or geospatial innovation
  • Sponsoring training programs and capacity-building initiatives
  • Connecting us with institutions responsible for wildfire management and ecosystem restoration

Together, we can transform how wildfire impacts are understood, managed, and mitigated, from reactive response to data-driven resilience.
